How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star
The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It is made up of 2,711 stars that are embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents someone who contributed to motion pictures, television, radio, theater, music, or some aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.
To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you are approved, you will receive a certificate of eligibility that includes your name, date, residence, occupation, category, and other information. A bronze plaque with your personalization is also provided. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.
If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee reviews all the nominations before deciding whether or not they are approved. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it.
