FAQ

Is Hollywood bigger than Bollywood?

The biggest challenge for any film producer is how to make sure his movie gets noticed by audiences.

The problem is that there are many movies competing for people's time and money. The problem is that you will not be seen if you aren't different from the rest.

But what makes a movie successful? What makes an actor famous? Or a director? It's more than talent, it's also luck. The best actors may be the best, but they will not succeed if they are writing bad scripts.

Two main types exist when it comes down to film: large-budget blockbusters or small independent productions. Producing and distributing blockbuster movies can cost hundreds of millions. These movies are often made by large studios that want their films to reach as many people as possible. However, these films with big budgets appeal mostly to older viewers.

Independent films, which are typically smaller-scale productions, can be financed either by individual investors or groups. These films tend to target niche markets and are tailored to specific tastes. These films are typically less expensive to produce and sell. However, this does not mean they are always less expensive to watch. It is actually very difficult to find most indie movies.

We need both types? Are we going to need both big blockbuster movies or small independent films? Hollywood is larger than Bollywood, in my opinion. Hollywood produces more movies than India every year.

Can I start my own distribution company?

No. Without being a distributor, you cannot legally establish a distribution company.

You must follow certain rules, even though you are not distributing films of other people.

For example, you can't charge different prices to different theaters. Additionally, fees cannot be charged to different customers.

Other companies cannot also sell your services.

How much does it cost for a feature movie to be distributed?

A distribution deal typically costs between $100,000 and $150,000.

The average cost per theater is around $10,000.

The average screen price is approximately $5,000

It means that, if you have 100 screens your distribution fees would be $500,000.

If you have ten screens, your distribution fees would be $50,000.

Are foreign sales worth more to Hollywood than domestic?

Yes, but only slightly. In 2017, foreign revenues accounted for about 17% of total revenue. 83% of domestic revenues were generated in 2017.

In fact, overseas markets account for over half of the world's population.

Many people will want to see your movie even though they may not have the opportunity to watch it at home.

How many theaters am I required to make my investment return?

It depends on how many weeks you plan to make your theatrical production.

You will only need one theater to show your film if you plan to run it for less that two weeks.

Two theaters are required if your film will be shown for more than two weeks.

Hollywood is famous for what?

The answer was obvious. Because they were willing take risks and do something completely different, it became famous. They made films that people would recall for years.

They were open to new ideas and had the courage of trying them out.

What's the difference between a manufacturer and a distributor?

The movie is produced by a producer. A distributor distributes the movie. Producers can sell their movies directly to theaters, distributors, or other companies like Netflix. Distributors buy movies directly from producers. Then they sell them to theaters, cable channels, or streaming services.

Distributors need to negotiate with theater owners about where their movies will play. This means that certain movies might be more expensive at some theaters than others. A distributor should have multiple theaters in order to ensure that your movie is seen by as many people possible.
