How to get an honor star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce established the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently lists 1,922 people.
You must first submit your name and address to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to become a member of HWOF. The Hollywood Department of Cultural Affairs then submits your information to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you have been approved, you will be given a certificate that shows your name and details, including date of birth, place of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.
You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25. This money is forwarded to the Department of Cultural Affairs of Los Angeles.
