The answer is probably around 200-300. What happens to the 2,700+ additional films? They are either distributed as direct-to–video releases or simply left in storage.
Some of them may not be seen. Some of them have been selected for distribution via Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus, iTunes, Google Play, etc.
Hence why don't more of these films be released? They are not being released in theaters. Because they are too expensive to make.
They could also be made cheaper and put into theaters.

It can also come at a high cost before you even begin.
To make matters worse, the window of time during which you can distribute your film is extremely limited.
There simply isn't enough time between when a film is finished, and its theatrical run begins.

How To
How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It's made up of 2,711 stars, which are embedded in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.
You must first submit your name and address to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to become a member of HWOF. The Hollywood Department of Cultural Affairs then submits your information to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, a certificate will be sent to you stating that you are eligible. This includes your name as well as date of birth and the city where you live. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is affixed to a concrete base in front of the designated star.
A current HWOF member can nominate you for a star or if you have made significant contributions in movies, television or radio. A committee reviews all the nominations before deciding whether or not they are approved. If they do, they will send a letter explaining their decision to the applicant at his/her home address. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25. This money is forwarded to the Department of Cultural Affairs of Los Angeles.
The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays any artist or organization that submitted an application. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then pays half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.
After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. The amount due depends upon how many years ago your first nomination was. For example, $15,000. Suppose you were first nominated as a nominee in 1990. You would be responsible for $10,000 if you had been nominated previously in 1980.
If you want to remove yourself from the HWOF, you need to contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and pay off the remainder of your debt. They will take care of removing your name from the list permanently.
How old is one to be eligible for a HWOF Star?
To be nominated, one must be at least 18 years. To receive a star, one must be alive at that time. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
A family member can nominate your name for a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce can place a memorial marker next to the star, if there aren't any living relatives.
Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?
The HWOF doesn't intend to be historical monument. It honors those who made history through film.
What happened the star thefts? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs approximately 250-300 pounds, which equates to 4 tons of stars.
