FAQ

How many theaters am I required to make my investment return?

It all depends on how long your theatrical release will be running.

One theater is sufficient if you intend to screen your film for less time than two weeks.

If your film will run for more that two weeks, at least two theatres are necessary.

Why do so few independent films ever get distributed?

Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.

Because they love the work, distributors will likely buy their films.

This is not often the case. Distributors often benefit from independent filmmakers.

They employ tactics like delaying a movie's release until after awards season has ended.

They may delay the release of a low budget film until after summer blockbuster season begins.

Distributors also try to keep films away from audiences until they've already spent hundreds of dollars on tickets, popcorn, or candy.

They don’t want to miss out on these profits.

Why did Hollywood become famous?

The answer was simple. They were willing to take chances and try something new. This made it famous. They made films that would last a lifetime.

And they also had the courage to experiment with new ideas.

How To

How to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. There are 1,922 individuals currently listed on HWOF.

To become a HWOF member, you need to submit a name to Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They then submit your details to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, a certificate will be sent to you stating that you are eligible. This includes your name as well as date of birth and the city where you live. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque is attached on a concrete base at the star.

If a member of the HWOF has nominated you, or if your contributions are significant to films, television, radio or theatre, or any other part of popular culture, you can apply for a Star. A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do, they will send a letter explaining their decision to the applicant at his/her home address. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.

The department issues a check payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which sends the check to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the application submitted by the artist or organization. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce receives half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.

After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. For example, $15,000. Suppose you were first nominated as a nominee in 1990. You would be responsible for $10,000 if you had been nominated previously in 1980.

Contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to get your name removed from the HWOF and to repay any outstanding debts. They will remove your name from this list.

How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?

To be nominated, one must be at least 18 years. To receive a star, one must be alive at that time. After receiving a Star, one can still be Nominated for another star after ten Years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Family members may nominate you to be a star. If there are no living relatives, then the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place a memorial marker in front of the star.

Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?

The HWOF is not meant to be a historical monument. It's meant to be a tribute to those who have contributed to film history.

What happened to the stars that got stolen? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
